Thoughts Behind the Self Portrait

When I first started I had two ideas. The first was to show who I am through a collage of items. The second came from an unrelated idea that I had back in November.

Here is the first idea.

It was suppose to convey my personality and what I love, that I am quirky, nerdy, girly, creative, and organized chaos. It could have worked if I spent more time with it. The big advantage is that I hate to be photographed and these were already existing pictures of me.

I abandoned it pretty quickly, mostly because I had idea number two, which was an idea I had floating around for something else.

A little backstory: I ordered myself a grey bunny patterned, fleece adult onesie for my birthday in November. I am perpetually cold, but it was adorable too. It came the weekend of my birthday. I put it on, looked into the mirror and thought, "So this is 33". The idea of doing a series of photographs of me going about my life in the onesie popped into my head. I texted a friend who thought the idea was amazing, and then I texted my photographer friend Kathryn and she was on-board to do it.

Fast forward to the project. I have this self portrait project and an existing idea, so I figured now was as good of time as any. Taylor needed help with her photos, so we agreed to help each other. I took a deep breath and sauntered through East Atlanta in my fleece bunny pajamas. The theme was to look "adult" and nonchalant as I stood there in public looking absolutely ridiculous. These are the results.

And the winner...
